Synopsis

Justice for Maurice Henry Carter is based on the true story of a wrongful conviction. Initially strangers, a Black man in prison and a White man become brothers while fighting for justice. A chorus weaves a cappella spirituals, hymns, and gospel music throughout. Innocence Canada supported Maurice’s case and was present when he was released from prison into the arms of his 90 year-old mother as he stepped out of a luxury Winnebago. Canada created The Miscarriage of Justice Review Commission to address wrongful convictions. When the legal system doesn’t work, the power of community and brotherly love does. (fringetoronto.com)
