Synopsis
David and Millie are on the brink of divorce after a horrible tragedy. Through the lens of this dying marriage, Birthday Balloon examines a “new” Newfoundland in the wake of the province’s worst economic downturn since the 1930s. Millie has stayed behind in Newfoundland, while David has been forced to work as a pipe fitter in Fort McMurray. She believes they are strong enough to continue on from the pain.
