Synopsis
At the age of 80, encouraged by Judith Thompson, eminent performer Carolyn Hetherington was inspired to write her first play – Women Who Shout at the Stars. This theatrical memoir features Hetherington in the roles of herself, her beloved nanny, Edie, and her dramatic mother Gwen, a tragic, suicidal society beauty able to survive and kick ass with her irreverent sense of humour and blazing temper. The play tells the story of Gwen’s adoration of three extraordinary men, including the legendary Vernon Castle, Carolyn’s nanny Edie who put aside her own life to give 70 years of life, love and loyalty to her girl and Carolyn’s struggle to find her own life-path between these two disparate women. In Carolyn’s words “While I’m still kicking a little ass myself at 83, I want to give these women 60 minutes in the light to live a little longer and tell their stories.” (summerworks.ca)
