We are Toronto’s Irish Repertory Theatre Company. We develop new works with a voice to the founding members’ Irish heritage and also produce material from the contemporary scripts of Ireland and the UK with a focus on introducing plays that are not yet well-known to Canadian audiences. We have a particular interest in the in-yer-face Irish playwrights who challenge artists and audiences with scripts that are provocative, intimate, and psychologically demanding. We believe that theatre should always be this brave. Our work is based in experiential theatre, where the audience is not simply watching a play, but experiencing it. Our aesthetic reason for producing this type of theatre comes from our alarm with early 21st century disconnectedness. In this digitalized era, driven by disengagement, we believe that experiential theatre can re-build connections by insisting that audiences are fully engaged. MacKenzieRo is an artist-run, independent theatre company.
