Synopsis
Twelfth Night is one of Shakespeare’s most beloved romantic comedies. In this bold new production, Alchemy presents it with a completely cross-gendered cast and sets it in the inner-city “Illyria Mental Health Women’s Shelter”.
Identical twins Violo and Sebastienne (associate artists Scott Gorman and Jennifer Finestone) are on the run from the law after a botched bank heist, and upon becoming separated they each seek refuge in the Church run “Illyria Women’s Shelter”.
With shelter residents Sir Toby Belch (Jess Moss) and Sir Andre Aguecheek (Tabitha Keast) as demented RenFest (ie Renaissance Festival) geeks, and Feste the Clown (Chelsea Manders) as a philosopher-poet homeless woman, this production promises to put a sharp-tongued spin on this classic comedy.
