Synopsis
A Taste of Empire is a theatrical experience unlike any other. For starters, it doesn’t take place in a theatre – instead, you are welcomed into a luxurious demonstration kitchen in the historic St. Lawrence Market. While you await your chef’s arrival, relax with a cocktail and complimentary hors d’oeuvres.
For your main course, writer-performer Jovanni Sy prepares a traditional Filipino dish in real time. As he cooks, de deconstructs the dish in humorous and surprising ways. The colonization of Asia, the state of modern agriculture, the ethics of food distribution and consumption – these are just some of the things you will sample in this unique performance piece. When the dish is done, you will be given a tasting plate and much more food for thought. A Taste of Empire is truly a feast of the mind and palate. Bon Appetit! (Cahoots Theatre)
